When it comes to macrame making, basic macrame knots should be learned without any hesitation. Such as Lark’s Head Knot, I am not sure if there is any beginner who is familiar with this knot. Guess most of you are stranger to them. So here is an brief instruction for you. What you should to do is cutting rope into several pieces, each 16 feet long, and then tying the cords onto the pole. An easy knot for you to have a start.

Then how about the Square Knot?

The Square Knot is the most basic of all macrame knots, and it is the only one you’ll need to know in making this wall-hanging.

1. Always work with 4 strands of rope.

2. Place the right outside rope across the 2 center ropes. (Always start with the right side.)

3. Run the left outside rope over the right outside rope then under the center cords and up through the opening.

4. With the outside strands, gently tighten the knot.

5. Make sure the knot is taunt, but be careful not to pull too strongly.

(Now repeat the first four steps, starting with the left side this time.) Place the left outside rope across the 2 center ropes.

2. With the outside strands, gently tighten the knot.
