Have you really get familiar with indigo dye?

Actually, I have to admit that I have never heard of Indigo Dye before, since I worked for it several years ago. Most of people may have a common sense of what is Indigo Dye on earth just the same as the first time I heard it. What does this use for? Where did this come from? Any other difference with other common dye? So have you really thought of what is indigo dye?

First of all, I would like to make it clear that what we will talk about is natural indigo dye instead of any indigo dye with chemical substance.

What makes natural indigo dye so unique?

Every time you process the natural indigo dye with a same fabrics, you would gain color difference and layering. And also, every time you process the natural indigo dye, even with the same kind of fabrics, you will have a different dyed product. So natural indigo never makes it monotonous when you are dyeing fabrics, although indigo dye is only for blue.

What’s more, the color of natural indigo dyed fabric can be changed over time. This is not caused by colour fading absolutely. We usually find it is common when there is some ripple on our Jeans with the effect of time and our legs which may be the same as the change of natural indigo dyed fabric. So, this kind of dye always brings us some visual enjoyment, eye-pleasing.

What’s the advantages of natural indigo dye?

Natural Indigo Dye- a kind of indigo dye from plants. There is doubt that, when it comes to natural, this kind of dye is good for our human beings health. And all dye stuff is come from plants, some pure nature plants. There is no any chemical substance in natural indigo dye. So all the fabrics you dyed can be wear directly without any special handle. That is to say, no harmful to human beings at all. Also, the sewage after dying can be drained off directly into our mother nature. Nothing can be afraid that the sewage will harm to our great living nature.

The most interesting thing is that the fabric which will use to process the dye is required to be natural, such as 100% cotton, pure hemp and so on. If there is any other man-made cloth, this dye product will disappoint you.

How to process the natural indigo dye?

Alkalic water is needed here. And then add some powdery indigo stuff into this water which will cause a chemical reaction between them. And next please remember to remove the oxygen in the alkalic water(here the liquor will show a color of yellow-green due to the removing of oxygen, and then the yellow-green liquor react with the oxygen in the air, and a blue color could be come into being gradually) . This is a necessary step which helps to dye. So the next step is to put the fabric into the liquor and soak it for about 5-10 min, then this will show Yellow-green color. While a blue color would be come into being after 30-60 seconds touch of air. Then make it air drying for 5-10min. You can put it into the dye liquor again. Just repeat this action until you feel the color is good and you want it. What you must to know is that, the first time dying must be uneven. So please repeat the dye steps and generally speaking, 4 times repeat will enough for you to get a wonderful color (of course this depends on yourself). Then wash the fabric with clear water in order to wash out the residual powdery. Also please remind to soak the dyed fabric into natural vinegar to fixation. Finally, wash the fabric for 3 times again. Then all natural indigo dye has been finished.
