YARN BOMBING --- MAKES THE WORLD MORE BEAUTIFUL AND WARMER?

Find Yarn Bombing Occasionally.

Hello, Dearlives, I am Samantha, who love anything related to hand-making, and I believe that people could change their life with their own hands.

Recently, when I walked along the street, I found there is a street art called Yarn Bombing which give me a sense of warm and creation. Then, I went home and searched online, only to find so many great street knitting works.

What is Yarn Bombing?

According to  Wikipedia, Yarn bombing is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fiber rather than paint or chalk. It is also called yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting, or graffiti knitting.

Will Yarn Bombing Make the World More Beautiful and Warmer?

I was impressed by Magda Sayeg’s (a textile artist) words at TED TALK on March 22, 2016. She mentioned, “All I wanted to see was that something warm and fuzzy and humanlike on the cold steel, gray façade that I looked every day.” And I couldn’t agree anymore. However, when I look through the comments, to my surprise, there are so many people criticizing Yarn Bombing: “Somewhere a homeless person stands in the cold, looking at a tree wearing a sweater”, “Imagine all the dust and smoke sticking to the yarn as time goes on, not to mention diseases. Woah” and “Looks cute until the elements wear down the yarn and it gets mouldy and begins to smell: /”.

As far as I think, on the one hand, we could not deny that Yarn Bombing makes our life more colorful and beautiful. I could feel the warm heart and talent from these textile artists. On the other hand, as the time goes on, the “clothes” will turn dirty or become to trash to some extent. So, I just wonder that if one really loves Yarn Bombing, how about to wash these beautiful clothes regularly rather than letting them get dirty and smelly?
